Environmental Responsibility Policy...

Statement of policy:

We at Budding Nature CIC recognise that we have a responsibility to the environment beyond the basic legal and regulatory requirements. We are committed to reducing our environmental impact and continually improving our environmental performance as an integral part of our business strategy and operating methods and will achieve this through regular review of our practices against our agreed environmental standards as set out in this policy. We will encourage customers, suppliers and other stakeholders to adhere to the same standards.

Responsibility:

Fiona Tate (Director) has lead responsibility for ensuring that the Environmental Responsibility policy is implemented. However, all Directors, volunteers and others working on behalf of Budding Nature CIC have a responsibility in their area to ensure that the aims and objectives of the policy are met.

Policy aims:

In all our practices we endeavour to:

  • incorporate environmental factors as the key consideration in our business decisions

  • comply with and exceed all relevant regulatory requirements

  • continually monitor and improve our environmental performance and thereby continually work to reduce our environmental impact

  • increase stakeholder awareness and influence stakeholders towards improved environmental practices

Ensuring internal awareness of the policy:

The management of Budding Nature CIC will ensure that:

  • all new members of staff, volunteers, and others working on behalf of Budding Nature CIC, are made aware of this policy and that they are given time to read it during their induction period

  • training is provided to all staff and volunteers, and to others working on behalf of Budding Nature CIC, to ensure that they are able to comply with its aims and objectives

Policy areas:

Waste management

  • the options of reusing, repairing or recycling materials, and of meeting the need in another way, will be exhausted before purchasing new items

  • we will use biodegradable materials wherever possible, and where this is not possible, we will use recycled and recyclable materials

  • we will minimise the use of paper and other single use items

  • we will recycle or compost waste materials wherever possible

  • any non-recyclable hazardous waste will be disposed of responsibly and in line with environmental regulations

Plastics

  • we will seek alternatives to the use of plastics wherever possible and we will work towards a zero-tolerance policy for single-use plastic

  • we will strive to only use suppliers who can demonstrate that they have eliminated or actively reduced plastic packaging

Energy and water

  • we will seek to reduce energy and water consumption as much as possible

  • lights and electrical equipment will be switched off when not in use.

  • heating will be adjusted with energy consumption in mind.

  • the energy consumption and efficiency of new products will be taken into account when purchasing electrical equipment

Transport

  • we will reduce the need to travel as much as possible

  • we will promote the practice of car sharing by Directors, volunteers and others working on behalf of Budding Nature CIC, and by participants in our activities

  • we will make additional efforts to accommodate the needs of those using public transport or bicycles

  • we will promote the use of alternatives to travel, such as using e-mail or online options for meetings

Suppliers

  • environmental impact, rather than cost, will be the primary consideration in all purchases of materials and services

  • we will strive to only purchase materials/services from suppliers who are able to provide an Environmental Responsibility policy that sets out standards that exceed the legal and regulatory minimum

  • we will evaluate whether renting or sharing are viable options before purchasing equipment

Monitoring, improvement and policy transparency

  • the policy will be made available on our website

  • stakeholders will be invited to contribute ideas and suggestions for improvement to the policy via our website

  • the policy will be subject to six-monthly review by the Directors of Budding Nature CIC and actions will be taken to implement identified improvements

  • policy reviews will take into account input from volunteers, others working on behalf of Budding Nature CIC, and other stakeholders

Policy review and improvement:

  • the policy will be subject to annual review by the Directors of Budding Nature CIC and actions will be taken to implement identified improvements

  • policy reviews will take into account input from Directors, volunteers, others working on behalf of Budding Nature CIC, and other stakeholders
